Materials
Woodburning tool and acrylic paints. Old cedar planks, 2 x 2's left-over from some latice work and some re-claimed molding. I used deck screws to attach the cedar planks to the 2 x 2's and finished the top off with the trim molding. I measured the phone box and made the frame of the box two inches larger on each side so this slips over the top of the box. I have it anchored down with an "L" bracket to the side of a retaining wall. This was not needed, but it gave it more stability. I painted the top using acrylic paints with a coat of varnish to seal it. Then I went and sat down with a glass of iced tea to look at my work.
What was your inspiration?
I think chocolate, but I'm not positive. This phone cover was pale green and stuck out like a sore thumb. Very ugly so I just had to do something.
What are you most proud of?
I didn't burn myself or start any major wildfires! This was an easy project and fun to do. It only took about 3 hours from start to finish.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Just play! I didn't have a plan, but I did let my surroundings influnce my art. At the time there were lots of sunflowers growing so I just sat down and had some fun.
