Beatrice Quilt

Instructions

I cut the Jelly Roll into a variety of pieces measuring 2 1/2", and 8 1/2" and sewed together to make 8" blocks, then sew the blocks together alternating to complete rows. Sew rows together. I stitched in the ditch to finish (although the photo shows only the quilt top finished).

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Children

Style: Cute

Materials

1 Jelly Roll

What was your inspiration?

A special gift for a third baby. Second, third and fourth babies always seem to get the "hand-me-downs". I had to make sure Beatrice had something new and her very own.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that this is my third quilt and I made it up as I went along. AND it worked perfectly.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you are looking for a really quick quilt to make for a new born this is great but the quilting did take me a while to finish (stiched in the ditch) given that I wanted to get it finished before the baby came home from hospital.

Bad news I am afraid nkliegel66 - I am not able to find the Jelly roll - I thought it was a Moda roll but I cannot locate it on their website. It has been a couple of years since I made the quilt and am not even sure if I bought the Roll well prior to making the quilt. I am sorry. In future I will make note of fabrics I use.

Hi Scominos - I didn't measure the finished quilt but it was a really good size for a cot.

Hi Rayna. It was really easy. All I did was purchase a Jelly Roll. Cut the 2 1/2" strips into 8 1/2" long rectangular pieces and 2 1/2" square pieces, mix up the various patterns of course. Sew 4 x 8 1/2" pieces together to make an 8 8 1/2" block. Sew 16 x 2 1/2" squares together to make 8 1/2" blocks, then lay out alternating block patterns and sew together. I just stitched in the ditch to quilt. Hope you have a go - if I can do it anyone can :)
