Disregard the EASY rating on the front of the package. I found this to be anything BUT easy.Category: Sewing

My daughter picked out this pattern and fabric from JoAnns. I am making this dress as a birthday gift to her. She wants to wear it to a wedding in June.
What was your inspiration?
My daughter asked me to sew a dress for her. My only stipulation was it has to be EASY. We headed to JoAnns to pick out a pattern and fabric. This pattern said EASY right on the envelope. Not true. So far we have....ruffles, pleats, darts, pockets, zipper, lining, hand stitching...to top it off the pattern pieces are marked with not one, or even 3, but FIVE sizes, making it a jumbled up mess and really hard to see where to cut or mark. This dress is most definitely NOT EASY. Then I notice a little word, at the bottom front of the pattern. Couture. Apparently COUTURE EASY is not the same as regular ol' EASY.
What are you most proud of?
That I was able to muddle through. I haven't sewn a dress in 20 years and wanted to ease back into it. This project was more like "sink or swim". It only took me 2 days to get to this stage. I still have the lining to insert and the hemming but am taking a couple of days off to work in my garden.
I'll post another photo once the dress is finished and my daughter can model.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Although this dress fits my daughter quite well it is just a little baggy in the back. There is very little waist definition. Fitting a pattern is beyond my skill level right now but I have signed up for the couture dressmaking course here on Craftsy.
