Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: The inside of each cake tier is 5 layers of green and pink vanilla sponge matching the wedding colour scheme, with a white vanilla butter icing filling. The couple's pet Beagles couldn't attend their destination wedding, so they wanted them on the cake. I was sent pictures of the Beagles so I could make sure their markings matched what they actually looked like as closely as possible, and I sculpted them out of white fondant which I painted with black and brown gel colours. The one Beagle was to be digging into the side of the cake and the other trying to get to the top of the cake, where the couple - represented by the lovebirds, was sitting. Each Beagle was supported by a single thin skewer which helped hold them on the cake along with a sugar glue. The wedding was themed with a tree, bunting and lovebirds, hence the "carved" fondant stump with the birds and bunting on the top of the cake. The stump is sculpted fondant with a wire frame inside. The bunting triangles were glued onto a white wire which was more stable and easier to manipulate than string would have been. I battled quite a bit to cover such tall cakes!

What are you most proud of? The tree stump cake topper! It came out so much better than I thought it would! I am also very pleased with the stability - this cake had to travel 3 hours by car to get to the reception venue and I was so afraid it would topple over!
