Beaded Lanyards

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Mod, Cute, Classic

Materials

Variety of beads, beading wire, crimp beads, swivel lobster clips

What was your inspiration?

I love to make beaded jewelry. I wanted something pretty to hold my ID badge for work, so I raided my bead stash. Coworkers complimented my lanyard, so I made some more for them.

What are you most proud of?

A friend who owns an optical store asked me to make some similar beaded eyeglass chains for her to sell in her store.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You need a good sized bead stash to make these. I used seed beads and a variety of other beads for each lanyard.

How long are they? I made some and I think I made them to long.

Also, I thought these were very pretty. I like the butterflies.

I make them from 17 to 20.5 inches from the back of the neck to the top of the clip. I have found that different people like different lengths. Go to my FaceBook page, Kindred Souls, and click on Store. You'll see detailed descriptions of many more lanyards, including the lengths.

Where do you hide your ends? Your pieces are beautiful!

Thank you! I place a crimp bead on the wire, then some small seed beads. Clip the wire down to about an inch or so. Put the clasp over the wire. Push the end of the wire back into the crimp bead (leaving the extra seed beads as a "loop" and the lobster clasp in the loop) and carefully thread the wire back through the crimp bead and other beads until there is just enough wire to comfortably crimp the crimp bead. After crimping, put a crimp cover on to hide the 'ugly' crimp.

Oops. I said 'lobster clasp' because some of my lanyards have them instead of the split ring. Either way, slip the clasp/ring over the beaded wire before pushing the wire back through the crimp bead.

thank you for this idea. I just had a friend ask me to make her a lanyard for her work ID and I was starting to think of how I was to accomplish it.

You're welcome. Don't know how much beading you've done, but if you need help with any of the details, feel free to ask.
