Beach Glass, Wire Wrapped Necklace

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Romantic, Casual, Funky

Materials

This necklace has a silver, wire wrapped, soft green piece of beach glass as the focus of the pendant. I added shell, jade and amethyst beads and more silver wire wrapping to complete the approximately 4" hanging pendant part of the necklace. The Chain is a combination of silver links, larger silver link with more jade, shell and amethyst beads and a silver star charm that hangs from the larger of the added silver links. A length of soft green, woven cord is also wire wrapped to a asymetrically designed necklace. The clasp is a silver lobster claw and large ring for easy wearing. The chain length is approximately 20", the pendant adds 4" of hanging lenght.

What was your inspiration?

The beach glass was the inspiration for this piece. I found a whole bag of this beautiful glass for sale at a yard sale and you can bet I bought it quickly! The soft, naturally tumbled glass feels so good to touch and looks great in jewelry. And I'm happy to upcycle something, getting it out of the environment and into someone's jewelry collection!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you don't have beach glass you can use a purchased or found stone or pendant as the focus piece. Find beads that match in color and/or style and let yourself explore the way the piece feels as you put it together. Trust your instincts as you create. And don't sweat the wire wrapping! Messy is usually better and more interesting! Just have fun!

I love the addition of the beads above your pendant - it really makes that whole section of the necklace stand out.

Thank you! I wanted to add something to make it special and these beads and shells seemed to do the trick.
