You could do something similar with a lot of patterns.I don't have one of these in my shop right now, it's a special order. These are easy for me to "theme up" to match the person.

What was your inspiration?
My son asked me to make a birthday gift for his buddy's 4 yr. old daughter. I know they vacation every year at a small local island with the lighthouse visable in the background. He told me she was a pretty little blond tyke & she liked mermaids (who doesn't?) So I went through my stash & found the lighthouse fabric and then appliqued GiGi as a mermaid on the front pocket.
The inside has another pocket and the lining is a fabric that looks like beach sand with tufts of grass. Just like the island!
What are you most proud of?
It was a very appropiate gift for her and she loved it and my son was happy to give it to her.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Start looking at your stash differently. Bags are fun and easy because they don't have to fit.
