Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

Materials

Batiks, applique machine embroidery

What was your inspiration?

I saw the quilt in a quilt store & loved the batiks

What are you most proud of?

How colorful it is & I created my own small block design in the flower frames

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use just about any batik you can find but be sure the flowers will show up good on the batik background

Thanks, 4Bird! This quilt was done about 4 years ago - not really that prolific! I also adore batiks.

Stunning!! What type of embroidery machine did you use? I have a machine, but haven't started the embroidery option yet. This gives me motivation.

Thank you! I did this on a Bernina 430 with the embroidery module & laptop computer. I then went crazy about 3 years ago and got a Bernina 830. So now my 430 is used mostly for piecing & quilting and the 830 is usally set up for embroidery - love the jumbo hoop. Take lessons at your dealer if possible.

Thanks, ZaZa, this was a machine embroidery design called Wild!flowers by Smith Street Designs. The pattern came with the embroidery design CD and quilt directions. The flowers are applique so they had to be cut out using the provided templates and then machine appliqued as part of the embroidery process.

I just bought this pattern at the Road to California quilt show. Can't wait to make it! Congratulations, you did a fabulous job! I hope mine looks half as good as yours. What type of machine do you have? I have a Babylock Ellegante 2.

Thanks for the good words. I did this on my Bernina 430 with embroidery module. However since that time I have purchased a Bernina 830 - love the jumbo hoop and all the features for embroidery.

I also made two - gave one to my sister. I just added as a project & when it asked me what Craftsy class I think I said none or selected commercial pattern - something like that.
