Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Fabric Patterning with Wax Resist »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Casual

Materials

Pima cotton, fiber reactive dyes, assorted stamps

What was your inspiration?

I really liked the sampler quilt in the videos and wanted to create fabrics I could use like that

What are you most proud of?

It was a lot of fun trying out different tools to see what marks they made. My favorite was the lines I cut in the potato stamp. Most of these colors are not ones I would choose on my own but I love how they all turned out.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I couldn't get the pewter or chartreuse to give me decent colors - it kept coming out way too dark. I finally mixed the color in a jar and then added it to the dye pot a little at a time until I got shades I was happy with.

Thanks for your nice comments. I used them all in a small quilt and love how it turned out. Great bragging rights to be able to say that I hand dyed/batiked all the fabrics. It's hard to believe all the fabrics started out plain white.
