18 rows of seed stitch
KP
followed by 16 rows alternating K2P2 and P2K2 to make boxes of 4 stitches

followed by alternating K4P4 and P4K4 to make boxes of 16 stitches

No, I'm sure it would work in any similar yarn, but I don't know how many yards you would need in order to get the length. This started out as my swatch and morphed into a scarf so it was a yarn choice made purely on the color. Any worsted weight yarn would probably turn out lovely!

Oops, that seed stitch goes for 18, not 8 and as you can see, the 4x4 basket weave continues for about 5 feet, with the seed stitch and 4x4 at each end. Sorry, I'm a beginner so it was easier to knit this scarf than to describe it. haha
