Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design It, Quilt It: Free-Form Techniques »

Instructions

machine trapunto on the basket: poly batting sewn onto back of basket design with water soluble thread then cut away from outside of basket. Templates were used for the outer border, I designed the fuschia feather border with the curved cross-hatching myself.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

cotton fabric, cotton batting, polyester batting for trapunto and cotton batting for entire quilt.

What was your inspiration?

I started this project two years ago and put it aside until I took Cindy's class. It was perfect for practicing some of my new techniques like scribbling, pebbles, and designing.

a new art quilt book gave me the idea to color in the trapunto basket, it just wasn't standing out enough. I used caran d'ache crayons to colorwash the basket.

What are you most proud of?

I love the inner border with the scribbles in the curved crosshatching.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I had already McTavished the area surrounding the basket, now I wish that I had used a heavier background filler.

I wish that I had used the gourmet batting of wool over cotton to make the quilting stand out more!

It is gorgeous. You are having way too much fun. I love the gridwork in the border. Way cool. I like everything about the quilt but the gridwork was so new to me.l.
