What was your inspiration?
I was inspired by the iconic Burberry plaid and determined to figure out a way to chart it and come up with a different design style for my latest dog sweater.
What are you most proud of?
The chart! I used the wonderful free online chartmaker by Tricksy Knitter, and it worked out beautifully. Also, I really like the construction of this one: It starts with the neckpiece and works down from there. The buckle closure is purely for fun, but it really adds to the "trench coat" feel of the sweater. Also, I love that knitted-on I-cord trim around the edges. This is a personal favorite of mine.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
If you are not the queen of colorwork, do those vertical red lines in duplicate stitch, as I did, rather than trying to use so many colors at a time. This is a great way to practice your colorwork without committing to a huge project. And try it on your dog as you knit it -- you can adjust the sizing as you go along. I got my buckles on Etsy, a great source for hard-to-find trims.
