What was your inspiration?
My second home, Barcelona, was the inspiration for this ensemble. When I'm not there I miss the blue of the Mediterranean Sea, the serpentine lines of Gaudi's architecture and the colorful modern art of Miro. I miss going for a paseo (walk) in the evening with my friends, as is the custom of all Spanish people. So I created my Barcelona Paseo design. It is packaged and ready for delivery soon to the County Fair and I'm hoping it will win me another Blue Ribbon in this year's knitting competition.
What are you most proud of?
I'm very pleased with the way my design came to life. I combined knitting, knitted felting, needle felting and a touch of jewelry design to actualize the vision I had in my head. I hope I'll be able to tell you soon that I'm proud of the ribbon I won at the Fair!
UPDATE JULY 2012: I am very proud to say that my Barcelona Paseo Ensemble won a 1st place prize in the Knitting - Adult Clothing category and was the Division Winner!!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Start with a vision, put it down on paper and see if you can make it happen. Don't be afraid to experiment with needle felting as a way to incorporate lines and color into your knitted fabric. I suggest you try it first with some test swatches and see what you can come up with.
