Instructions

I found the photo of the Ballerina Pointed Toe Shoes on the web. I made my own fabric to print on and printed the Shoes onto a beautiful cream patterned background and designed the quilt from there.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Style: Whimsical

Materials

cottons, threads, warm and natural batting, backing, embroidery threads and Krienik thread for the ribbon on the pointed toe shoes

What was your inspiration?

I was hired to create this special quilt for a friend's daughter for Christmas. She is a dancer and dreams of ballet. It is truly a one of a kind quilt.

What are you most proud of?

The way the ballerina feet turned out. I have never done tarapunto - but decided not to follow the traditional tarapunto methods and created my own by double batting the feet with warm and natural first - before I quilted them. I then quilted and added the ribbons and tried to keep it simple and whimsical. She absolutely loved it. The embroidered quotes and applique were added as well. This is truly a one of a kind design.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Remember to do the embroidery and applique first and then the quilting. Use your imagination and creatiivity to make something unique.

This is absolutely fabulous. I am glad the dancer loved it.

thank you - It took me a while to figure out just exactly what I was going to do with the feet - I knew the dancer would end up sleeping with it on Christmas Eve - and I have the photo of her all wrapped up in it. It sure put a smile on my face to see that photo.
