Thank you so much, i made a couple of these hats, but cannot figure out how to do the edging at the back and the tiebacks. What do you mean by add 3 stitches on each side for icord? Thank you - Kristin

Hi there, I have printed of the free pattern but it doesn't seem to be the same shaping as your 's in the side view photo of the pattern (how it has the step pattern up the side) if you can understand what i am meaning. Can you please share the pattern that has the side shaping also. My e-mail address is rossdotclark@gmail.com if that helps. From Dot Clark, Napier New Zealand. Thank you so much for your help.

Neither of the free patterns look like this picture. This one has the cute edging that neither of the pattern pictures shows. Can we get the pattern with the edging? Thanks!

This is soooo cute! It's so hard to find cute things for my boys. I want to make one right now. I looked at the pattern and I agree that yours does look much more finished. I take it that the ties are I-cords sewn on afterwards, but could you tell me what the edge of the hat is? Is it just knit across for several rows, then you go into the k2p2 rib pattern? TIA

Start with 5 rows of K1P1. Also, I worked the icord on both ends into the patter. 3 extra stitches on each end. To fit newborn snugly I stopped knitting when I had 6 rows of the purl ribbing and kitchener stitched up the back. I hope that information helps!
