What was your inspiration?

The expected arrival of a new baby girl in our family made me look for a pattern for baby booties. I love the ballerina-like design of this pattern.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use a larger crochet hook than I did (3.0). They turned out fine, just really small! The pattern said to use 3.25.

I used different shades of pink for the soles and shoe which I think adds a subtle extra to the colouring.

On the first pair I made (as shown in the photos) I used a second small crocheted flower instead of buttons. Buttons are more practical though and just as cute.

After trying the first pair on, I made the closing strap a few stitches longer and placed it a little bit (2 st.) more to the front. The fact that these booties can be closed makes them practical for newborns, as socks etc. always slip off in a sec, but you'll like those straps to be comfortable as well as easy to close.
