What was your inspiration?
My son asked for a blue quilt for his futon. I found the pattern in "Slash your Stash Quilts" by Claudia E. Plett. I bought lots of fat eighths and had some fabric from other projects. The backing fabric is snowy mountains - he loves to ski. I used blue variegated thread for the quilting, which was very basic diagonal lines with a walking foot.
What are you most proud of?
I was actually able to piece this without getting all mixed up, lol. All of my seams matched!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
For this pattern, you need a strong contrast between the darks and lights to get the 3-D effect. Small prints and tonal fabrics work better than large prints so you see clean lines. Lay out your pieces on a design wall or floor. I always take a picture of my projects before sewing the blocks together to see how the layout works. Then if I get mixed up, I can refer to my picture.
