Autumn in Vermont

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
Big Block Beauty, APQ magazine, 6/08

Difficulty:

Category: Other

For: Men

Materials

quilting cottons, in reds, yellows, greens and oranges. (The colors in the pictures are not very true. Many of the greens look blue here, and the patches that look white are actually white and yellow cloud print.)

What was your inspiration?

My son has always loved red and orange, lives in Vermont, and loves to ski. so I made this quilt for him, with all the colors of the leaves in Fall, and a border of snowflakes. (It often snows in October in VT.)

What are you most proud of?

The hand quilting. It took me 4 years to finish, but it was worth it. The backing is a much deeper red than in these pictures, and the thread is variegated in the colors of Autumn, except the border, which is quilted in white. The quilt is as pretty on the back as on the front!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You have to really love the person you make this for, because it was a lot of time and work.
