Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Fondant Frills »

Instructions

I really went for it on this project . . . . Might I suggest, if you don't have a lot of time, trying 1 or 2 tiers! :-) Maggie Austin did a really great job in her course & although these pics aren't good (sorry), I was excited enough with the results to want to share!

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Women

Style: Whimsical, Romantic, Classic

Materials

Fondant, Fondant, Fondant . . . . Gumpaste for roses, leaves. . . celbuds for center of roses, floral wire

What was your inspiration?

Maggie Austin's Craftsy course - - - of course!

What are you most proud of?

The pics aren't good, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. Maggie Austin's instructions were great.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Maybe start off with 1 or 2 tiers instead of 4? Perhaps?

This is totally gorgeous, Susan! I love your `cake stand' too. It goes so well with the heavenly cake. I agree with you about Maggie's class - excellent. Did you find it time-consuming due to not having a pasta machine? I just made my first one with the help of a machine and didn't find it too bad, but it was only 2 tiers.

Hi, Catherine! Well . . . I did have the pasta attachment for my Kitchenaid, but it was just such a large cake - so much - and for me, just learning the new technique, and ruffling every inch - just took me a lot of time. I found working with fondant more challenging due to the softness (versus gum paste) - I'm just starting another one - we'll see if it goes any faster this time around! :-)

Thank you!, Maggie!! I love your cake designs - really art! - Your course is fabulous! Trying not to be too effusive here, but . . . for beginning cake designers like me to have access to and get feedback from the best in the industry is such a blessing! Thanks for taking the time!
