Instructions

This bargello is as much a color study as it is a bargello. If you pick the wrong fabrics, or put the wrong fabric in the wrong place the dimensional affect falls apart. This is a good way to stretch your fabric selection skills, or use a kit.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

100% quilting cotton

What was your inspiration?

The cool colors of the evening sky glimmering with stars.

What are you most proud of?

I scaled the pattern up to use 2" strips instead of the 1.5" strips specified in the book. The quilt finishes at 61" x 88". This is the fourth bargello I have completed, and the most challenging one yet. I really struggled with the fabric selection to get the desired dimensional affect. I quilted it myself on my domestic sewing machine with a walking foot.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The piecing is only a little more difficult than in a beginner bargello quilt. Fabric selection is crucial in this quilt.
