Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Instructions

I created scrappy blocks, added sashing strips between each block and sewed them together. For the scrappy border I used pieces of left over fabrics which I paper pieced using adding machine tape (as demonstrated by Peggy Martin in her Quick-Strip Paper Piecing course, lesson 12).

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Children

Style: Casual

Materials

cotton fabrics

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make a baby quilt and the asterisk block (Craftsy Block of the Month class) worked out well.

What are you most proud of?

The scrappy borders were a fun, new challenge for me and I'm pleased with the results.

Gorgeous! I was just telling my husband that I thought it would be fun to do an asterisk with different fabrics :) Seeing what an awesome quilt you made makes me want to do it even more! I love your scrappy border, too. Very inspiring project. Thanks for sharing!

Very pretty. How did you get the variety of colors? Did you make several blocks and mix and match? Very nice.

I had six different fabrics I wanted to use. I started with a 12-inch square of each fabric. After the first diagonal cut, I shuffled the triangles so that each side of the first white shashing strip was different. Then after the second diagonal cut, I shuffled the triangles again and continued mixing up the fabrics so I'd get a scrappy look.

this looks amazing. I made two blocks for two quilts, that was enough of that block for me. , the wonky pound sign was easier for me.
