Arwen Hooded Cloak

Instructions

In order to have the color changes to be consistent through the body, I made panels for it and sewed them together. I then went along the enire bottom edge to finish. i used an extra panel on the inside front for a nice big pocket for cold hands.

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Funky, Whimsical, Romantic

Materials

Mary Maxim's Serene yarn 6 mm crochet hook

What was your inspiration?

I love the cloaks from Lord of the Rings, and wanted to make one with the same style

What are you most proud of?

the consistency of the color change through the body of the cloak

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have lots of yarn! buying different dyelots may have discrepancy of color

Me, too. The patterns shown on this site, should be available on this site and not take you half way around the world or internet to find it. If its on Craftsy, it should be printable on Craftsy, its free, isn't it?

I think I would like to try to make this. How much yarn did you use (meters or yards) and what weight was the yarn? :-) Thanks!

I love it! My question would be, how would one (I'm a novice but I love a challenge) make it in a single colour? Panels would be something I'd work into once I figured it out.

it would be much simpler in one color. i would start with the neck, and do double crochet with regular increases as you work the body. then you can make it as long and as full as you want. mine is big and heavy enough that i used two buttons to close at the top

Unfortunately, i just made it, and didn't write anything down. I made the body in 5 rectangular panels, (all double crochet) with regular increases as i went to create more fullness at the bottom. sewed them together, and did a few rows of DCrochet along the entire bottom. then made a hood with a tassell. i had a smaller panel left over which i sewed inside for a big pocket. i used two buttons to join at the neck. i used 3 balls of Serene yarn. it works really well for this project as the seams dont really show with the texture of the yarn. If you have any other questions, i would be happy to try to help
