wow-looks great. Your sleeves look like a great fit. I'm a little worried that my armholes are a little too big. Was your sizing what you typically wear?

Yes, I did the 34 1/4 with some adjustments in the waiste and hips (I added a few inches) but the sleeves were knit as written. I usually wear a size 6 or a small. My guage was right on (a miracle) so I could take the tape measure and see how things would fit.

I think this might be too complicated to dive into for a new knitter. Have you done any top down sweaters? If yes you might try this. You do need a certain amount of knitting experience for this project. You also need to read the lace chart. I just don't know how to advise you.
