What was your inspiration?
I was reading that Victorian women would sit together and roll leftover swatches and bits of wallpaper into beads....which they would then string into curtains or room dividers. I actually started by making a paper beaded swag for my dining room....and I took it from there!
What are you most proud of?
I use only discarded, salvaged and out of print books... for my jewelry...unless it's a custom design for a client who wants to use their own pictures. I use bits and baubles from old jewelry whenever possible and am most proud that I'm able to create such unique pieces of jewelry from what was sure to be tossed in the trash. I have developed a special method to make these beads super resistant to moisture...and with prope care they will last forever!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Have a plan..or just roll up paper and see what happens! Respect the paper and treat it like any other gemstone...remember it once came from the trees. Take your time, and preserve images in beads that are special.
