Armadillo tote

Make It

This project was made from an independent Craftsy designer's pattern:
Armadillo Tote Bag »

Instructions

It went together very quickly, and was out and about in less than an afternoon.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Unisex

Style: Classic, Eco-Friendly

Materials

I used a cast-off Ikea curtain and my mighty brain.

What was your inspiration?

I have bought and made about a billion shopping bags, and this is the result of kluging the best features of these things. Living in Seattle, where bringing your own bag is now (almost) the law, I can always use another bag for groceries.

What are you most proud of?

I am so very proud that I figured out how to combine a squared off bottom with a comfortable handle that supports the corners of that squared off bottom. I really really feel a great sense of satisfaction to make a project that exceeds my expectations AND is easy to make. Celebrating with coffee even now!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It really does take a yard of fabric, the pattern is incorrect on that topic. You can make something that rolls up into the pocket but the fabric has to be lightweight. You can make a bag from heavy materials that doesn't roll up. I've got some cute print canvas I'm going to use to make a couple for presents. Right after I finish this coffee.
