What was your inspiration?
I had made long strip sets of stash fabrics for another quilt (which I haven't made yet). Because the widths of the fabrics varied from 40" to 60", I had a lot of uneven ends left over. I cut these crosswise into 2 1/2" strips of 4. and combined 4 of these for the patch blocks. For the back, I had bought the blue and yellow patchwork fabric because I loved it.
What are you most proud of?
The edges of the body of the quilt, where I made rectangles that created the 4 fabric diamonds around the edge. I also used the backing fabric that I cut off after quilting for the binding. Because the backing was pieced, it made the binding more interesting, I was assured it would be long enough, and I didn't waste any material.
I'm also proud that, for once, I actually made something for me. I have given all my other quilts away.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Directions for this quilt are usually for one block that incorporates 2 four patches and 2 of the diagonal block. I made 2 different blocks, one of 16 patches and one of 4 of the diagonal blocks joined to make an X. I think my way is easier.
