What was your inspiration?
This is my variation block for April's Sunny with a chance. Finally finished this block today. I wanted to do something a little different and incorporate some applique. Since my fabrics are all earthy and nature inspired I decided to add an appliqued "Black-eyed Susan". This block will be appliqued on top of the sashing instead of cut to 12 1/2 and pieced. I left the tail of the stem because this will also be appliqued on top of the sashing with leaves added to it.
What are you most proud of?
I am trying to be a little more artistic with this quilt for a more modern look. So many quilters are breaking rules for some fabulous modern quilts, I thought why can't I...
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
This block has 72 hexagons, and while I love the end product, I should have maybe gone with bigger hexagons. It took a long time to do. This has been my take along project for the last couple of months.
