Applique drawstring bag

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Bag-Making Basics: Drawstring Bag & Bucket Bag »

Instructions

If you're making the drawstrings from two pieces, be sure to reinforce the seam all the way around before stitching the tube. After tugging on it to turn the drawstring right side out, my seams were weakened. I used a zig-zag stitch in matching thread to reinforce it after. It was easier, and prettier, to reinforce it before stitching the tube.

What was your inspiration?

The "S" was appliqued on a small square of fabric in an applique class several months ago. I've been looking for a way to use it. The piece of fabric was too small, so I had to piece the front panel together. I added stripes of the contrasting fabric. Both the red and blue FQs had been used in the applique class, so I didn't have enough to match the bag pattern exactly. I made the drawstrings out of the blue fabric, and the lining is made from a neutral fabric from my stash.

Looks like you made it into a back pack! That's what I want to do. Beautiful.

this came out great, who cares if it's not exactly like the one in the class. I think I'm going to copy this idea and do some stripes with applique too!
