Instructions
There are many patterns on the market today for this type of quilt although this one was made about 50 years ago judging by the fabrics used. Some are poly and some are cotton so it isn't really old. It is an antique however.Difficulty:

This antique top was purchased from a shop in WA. I bought some batting and white cotton for the backing. I hand quilted it myself with a huge hoop about two ft wide using long, thin needles and top-st thread in white. It took three months to finish. I put deep red binding for a pop of color and I think that works well.
What was your inspiration?
I was shopping in an antique store in Vancouver, WA where we lived for a time and along with another one called La Moyne Star, I took them home and started hand quilting them. I did three of these.
What are you most proud of?
That I had the energy and knowledge to get it done. It did take three months and I got carpal tunnel after quilting three of these antique quilts. All are posted here on Craftsy.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
This is a very detailed and time consuming project. I would never make a DW myself from scratch. I know those who have done it and loved the process. But, I am not that patient so I opted for buying the top and than hand quilting it.
