What materials did you use? I started with a set of 10" squares that I had acquired on some stash acquisition expedition. Since there were only 42 squares I decided to use a single fabric to pair with each one so that I would end up with a quilt of a useful size. The fabrics were all 100% cotton.

The directions given in the class for how to make this block were very clear. Some of mine did not get squared up properly, but that was my fault for not taking the time to make the proper template for the squaring up. I would definitely consider making this quilt again and taking advantage of what I learned on this one to do a better job.

I'm fascinated by the 'single fabric.' Did you audition many fabrics or did this one just jump out for you? The entire top seems so well laid out and balanced, almost random but it couldn't have been. Congratulations!

I knew I wanted to use the pack of blue and yellow squares, but since there were only 42, I knew I had to add to them to make a decent sized quilt. I knew it had to be a blue dark enough to contrast with even the darkest blues in the pack, and I actually had this dark blue in stash. As for the layout, it is a carefully planned "random." I laid out 3 rows of 7 blocks because that had 1 each of the 21 fabrics in the pack, then duplicated that arrangement but offset for the second half. There are a couple of places where adjustments had to be made, but it mostly worked.
