Sheepskin

What was your inspiration?

Looking back at old photographs I saw one of my son with his favorite Blue monkey which he took everywhere until his lost him. I have never found one like it in all these years no matter where I looked. So for his 30th Birthday I thought I'd try to make something similar but functional and these two came out.

What are you most proud of?

How I managed to work with a pattern in my head.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you do have the opportunity to find sheepskin off-cuts, do remember that sewing machines are a bit of a no no unless you are more fortunate than I am, therefore buy a strong thread and use sewing needles for leather as it makes it much easier. Remember sheepskin is a by-product of the meat trade so no animal has been purposely slaughtered for the skin. The advantage of using this product is that good quality fur will not molt, will keep warm in winter and cool in summer, airline pilots swear by it! so soft toys for young children (safety eyes always) are a thoughtful gift when you make them yourself. Know where you get your fur, do not go for dodgy imported skin ever.
