What materials did you use? Cotton batiks and a killer embroidery/sewing machine.

What are you most proud of? Mostly, designing the elements, altering the embroidery patterns, and finishing on time. This project took 9 months. Putting that honking big, 12", lighthouse embroidery slap on the quilt rather than on a separate block of it's own. I was really sweating it the day that went down. A machine malfunction could have set me back a month. In retrospect, it probably wasn't a good idea, but I went for it, anyway.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you want to try a Storm At Sea quilt, buy the templates. You'll be really glad you did. You can find her book and the templates on Amazon. All the machine embroidery work and alterations were chewed on with "Embroidery Works" which is an obscenely $$$ piece of software for embroidery/sewing machines. I own a Brother Quattro 6000. This was a dual quilting and embroidery challenge. I like to joke that it took me as long to make her wedding quilt as it did to make my daughter.
