Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Shoot It! A Product Photography Primer »

Instructions

Understanding what I find compelling in a photo helped me to translate that into my photos. My composition has improved as well.

You can see the difference in the original photo for our Ups A Daisy Measuring Tape pattern, and the improved photo once I took the class. Thanks Caro!

Materials

Canon 3Ti camera and knowledge I gained in the Shoot It! class

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to show the whimsy of this little project.

What are you most proud of?

In the improved photo, I feel like I want to reach into the photo and pick the little tape measure up. It's so much more compelling and less stiff than the original shot - just what I was going for.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do the homework. You may think you already know the material, but you may be quite surprised by what it teaches you. Be a student and follow directions. There's much to learn here and much of what you're learning may be about yourself as an artist.

What an amazing improvement! I wouldn't have thought that the background would change the photo so dramatically. The camera angle also helps lead the eye to the product. Wonderful work :)

Wow. The original was good, but the improved photo is great. Congratulations on a lesson well-learned.
