Amethyst Statement 2

Instructions

Consider the weight of the stones. This is a heavy necklace, but it DOES make a statement.

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Romantic

Materials

All of the gemstone beads are amethyst, including 4 mm, 10 mm Cape Amethyst, 12 mm lavender Amethyst and large faceted twist Amethyst focal, Silver Bali beads, end caps and cones.

What was your inspiration?

I had several of those large Amethyst focals in my inventory. Then I got a good buy on the Cape Amethyst and I had several ideas about how to combine them. Both style beads were big and important and they said "Look at me!" My inspiration was to make them into statement necklaces that REALLY said "Look at me!" So far, I've done two combinations and I have enough for one more, but I'm ready to do something else for now until I get inspired to do Statement No. 3.

What are you most proud of?

Actually, when putting together Statement No. 2 necklace, I liked the look of the bead combinations surrounding the focal bead so I incorporated that particular arrangement into a pair of baroque earrings to match. They are large and ornate earrings, but they do draw the eye to both themselves and their accompanying necklace. I'm proud of the resulting "Look at me!" set.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Probably the most important thing to consider is the total weight of the finished project. This necklace is heavy -- not for the faint of heart. I could have cut down considerably on the weight by replacing the 10 mm Cape Amethyst beads with a pretty silver chain, but the whole idea was to find a way to use the Cape Amethyst which were SUCH a good buy at $1.29 per strand!

very nice set, the large focal piece looks a lot like labradorite, I love the shape -it adds a contrast to the round beads.

Just my poor photography because it lacks the chatoyance of labradorite. It is a very dark amethst cut with some large facets in a twist shape.
