Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stitch & Slash »

Instructions

I used the techniques I learned in the Stitch and Slash class, expounding on those techniques to create a piece of fibre art that honors our troops - past and present.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Far quarters, various threads, vintage buttons, beads, free motion embroidery, reflective piping, spent ammo, twine, ribbon, vintage tatting

What was your inspiration?

My grandmother's cousin's son is MIA in Laos since Nov 30, 1968 - Capt Raymond C Stacks. Although some remains from the crash were repatriated, no positive DNA identification was made for Ray. While there is a place for him at Arlington, he may still be in Laos.

What are you most proud of?

This project has been rolling around in my head for a while now. I'm glad I finally started it.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just start stitching and slashing. You never know where it will take you!

What a wonderful piece of art. And you posted it on the Inauguration day of our President. So meaningful on many different levels. Thanks for sharing this.

I'm still layering, stitching, adding to it. I visited our local Army Surplus store for more items to add to the piece.
