What was your inspiration?
Honestly, the Rosary. There is a long explanation about how roses and the scent of roses is associated with the Mother of Jesus. I am not going to go into that, but it was that story that got me thinking about how I can attach a rose to the Crosses. The roses are on both sides so no matter which way around the Cross turns the rose is there.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
What I am going to say here is a bit controversial but here goes.
I do not recommend aluminum for jewelry wear. Aluminum can be absorbed through the skin at low levels and I am not comfortable selling aluminum pieces or not telling folks that absorption and toxicity are possibilities, however remote. For most people a Cross is something they tend to wear constantly, which adds to my concern.
Conversely, I love aluminum for things like key chains, holiday ornaments, and other non-jewelry functional items. I make these as key chains.
That is my 2 cents and I am sure there are folks who think it is not worth that much, but I feel strongly that folks who I inspire or encourage should be aware of any issues, no matter their importance.
