cut cover off book with xacto knife. Make a pattern. Trace it onto the first page. Cut around it carefully. Repeat for as many pages as necessary. when all pages have been cut, glue together the first and last few pages. Paper clips helphold it til it dries.Difficulty:

What advice would you give someone starting this project?
don't choose a book with 1000 pages! Invest in a SHARP knife. You can only cut through a few pages at a time. Very tedious. Also, it was difficult to maintain the pattern shape all the way to the end because I was too lazy to trace the apple shape on each page. I kept using the previous pages as a guide. By the end of the project it was so lop-sided on top that i ended up cutting it in half and making a tall one and a short one! this picture is the short one. The tall one I decided to ink the edges red. I used a stick for the stem(hot glue) You have to play with it to keep all the edges from opening up but I think I'll glue a couple of coffee beans onto the two pages that keep spreading. They'll look like apple seeds : )
