Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Spinning Dyed Fibers »

Difficulty:

Category: Spinning

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Classic

Materials

I spun these yarns from alpaca roving that was a blended color--part of the roving was a natural fawn color and the other part was a dyed burgundy color. I also experimented with different spinning techniques to see which I liked I better, including the short forward draw and spinning from the fold.

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired by Felicia's demonstrations of different methods that you can use to spin colored fibers.

What are you most proud of?

In addition to the different spinning methods that I tried, I also experimented with plying. The skeins include a single, 2-ply and a 3-ply (the largest skein). I am most proud of how much I progressed from the time I began spinning the alpaca to the time I completed the skeins.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to experiment!

That came out lovely! I just started taking this class today and I can't wait to get into my boxes of rovings and start trying new things.
