What are you most proud of? My sewing machine is too small to quilt such a big project so I hand quilted instead!

I have just started getting material in to do a quilt for my son in the Army. It is to give to a High Ranking retiring officer it will be part machine and part hand. I was not very smart. I told him, I would the leftovers for him a quilt, Now, both have to ready and gone by the second week of September. I will do as much hand quilting as possible. That clock is ticking. Beautiful work.

Hi Quiltknit, it sounds as though you are going to be very, very busy sewing, I started to hand quilt this project on the 1st of March after deciding that it was just too bulky to machine quilt, but as I didn't have a deadline like yourself I was doing other projects in between, so I couldn't give you an accurate time scale I'm afraid, I do hope that you can complete both quilts in time, all the very best of luck. This is fantastic!! Outstanding work. You should be proud. I'm inspired to hand quilt a larger project. Who knows - perhaps my 2012 BOM will finally get quilted :D

Thank you Jean, it took a while but I loved every minute, I find it very therapeutic, I'm currently hand quilting my king size quilt from another class on here, stitching in the ditch, probably have that one finished by November! If you enjoy hand sewing then why not do your 2012 BOM, the sense of achievement is reward in itself.

by the way, if you haven't already got one, I'd recommend a 21/22" quilting hoop, makes life a whole lot easier as Andi suggested and you can accommodate a full 12" block easily with room to spare.

wonderful job! I just signed up for the class with Andi and hope to hand quilt one of my waiting tops. I too can not afford to have the quilts quilted for me. Your quilt is an inspiration as it is your first and so detailed. Doesnt the hand quilting make it so soft and hugable looking!

Thank you, I hope you enjoy the class as much as I did, Andi is a wonderful teacher, once you get going you'll wonder why you hadn't tried it before.
