Soft and fluffy, yes. Finished the scarf last week, so of course it is very warm right now and I can't wear it.

I learned to knit in the English style, but prefer the continental style. However, I go back to the English style for some things. For example, I couldn't figure out how to knit backwards (taught in the Craftsy Entrelac class) until I went back to the English style. In The Principles of Knitting by June Hemmons Hiatt, she describes a lot of different knitting styles--I had no idea there was such variety.

I'm a continental/German/Russian (whatever you want to call it) knitter. A "picker" by whatever name. My struggle is trying to "throw" so I can do two-color knitting with one color for each hand. But that is a different issue and not applicable to brioche. I'm so very happy to finally "get it" and I'm enjoying this scarf tremendously and eyeing other projects.

I have learned to knit two different ways. I have my favorite, but it is useful to know another way. It might be worth your time to practice another technique.

great start for the Alex scarf!!!! I feel like I am no use....see, I have learned to knit since a little girl, BUT: I knit with one needle under my armpit, something not so common in rest of europe or the states...you guys knit with both needles loose, both hands down...anyway...I dont have a problem with me knitting this way, and I do knit fast like this...BUT: when I need to knit with DPNS for instance, I knit sooo slowly and I dont exactly know how to hold them...thats when I feel hopeless...but I need to learn to knit well with them as well, because of projects like the wonderful Alex scarf dear Nancy...and for brioche stitch in general where one needs to slide the work instead of turning it, and also, when knitting in the round....I wish I find the trick for that kind of knitting too....love you all!, NANCY YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER!!! THANKS!!!

Hello, Athena! I understand how frustrating it can be to learn a new style of knitting. It took quite a bit of time before I became comfortable with continental style knitting. Please be patient with yourself. I'm absolutely sure that with time you will learn how to knit with DPNs. Youtube is a great resource for knitting instruction. Please practice, practice, practice and be patient with yourself. Let us know how you progress.
