Wool strips on burlap backing

What was your inspiration?

My new niece-in-law was named Alberta Rose was going to live in Edmonton, Alberta. I hooked this as a wedding gift to her and my nephew.

What are you most proud of?

The flowers...the gradation of colour was difficult to achieve. It took awhile to figure out how to do it so it looked cohesive yet had enough interest for the viewer. I also was trying to use up leftover wool fabric from other projects as much as possible.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

As with any rug hooking, be sure you have a good frame, a good comfortable hook, decent backing and fabric. You don't have to use wool fabric to hook this project. You can hand cut/tear up old clothes to put into it.

Also, be aware that people hook at different speeds. As an experienced hooker I still only hook an area the size of my hand in one hour. So expect to take awhile to hook a mat this size, and perhaps start with something a little smaller.
