AKINOYONAGE FROM HONORING THE SEASONS

Instructions

The book "HONORING THE SEASONS" Quilts from Japan's Quilt House Yama, TAKAKO ONOYAMA. This book has excellent instructions and patterns. I love that everything is traditional, such as the quilting done on the borders being different, not the same. This will use your applique and hand quilting skills. Very fun to do if this is your passion.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

I used a combination of cottons, beads, regular thread and metalic threads.

What was your inspiration?

I love oriential wallhangings and fabric. I saw this on the cover of the book and knew I had to do it. My Aunt and Uncle loved anything oriential so it would be for them. I made this in 2004 and gave it to them on their anniversary. Several years ago my Uncle passed away. My Aunt gave it back to me knowing her two sons would never want or apprieciate it. I was more than excited, I put so much into doing this wallhanging and learned so much.

What are you most proud of?

All the hand quilting is my favorite part. I think the applique is good but the quilting makes it all come together. The way you change from one pattern into another and using it to create motion.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't plan on getting it done in a hurry! This takes time and love of what you are doing.

Thank you! The pattern actually has the corner blocks more as fans with some cording on them. I got the silk cord but could not get them to look right. So had a design opportunity!
