Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Style: Romantic, Traditional

Materials

TLC Baby sport weight yarn (Coats & Clark)

What was your inspiration?

When my nephew and his wife decided to name the baby they are expecting "Lilly Rose", I knew this yarn I'd purchased several years ago would be perfect for the gift of a baby afghan.

What are you most proud of?

I ran out of the light green yarn for the intricate edging called for in the pattern design, so I left out the last five rounds. Because I used variegated yarn for the afghan body, I decided my simplified border was actually a better "choice" because it frames but does not compete with the center.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you can read a pattern, know the basic stitches, and are willing to learn one or two new ones if necessary, you CAN create a family heirloom.
