Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design It, Quilt It: Free-Form Techniques »

Instructions

I did the quilting for this quilt on my long arm. Another lady (Rececca) made it. I just wanted to show the quilting. I used several of Cindy Needham techniques to quilt this quilt. I learned so much from her class.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Classic, Mod, Traditional

Materials

Cotton thread, batting and fabric, So Fine thread for the quilting

What was your inspiration?

After taking Cindy Needham's class I wanted to use some of the techniques I learned from her. Rebecca had sent this massive quilt top to me for quilting and gave me free reign to quilt whatever I wanted. After "dividing and concurring" it was more simple to figure out what to do with it.

What are you most proud of?

I am really pleased with all the texture created by the dense quilting

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The meandering feather I used as the background was much more time consuming than I thought it would be.

Thanks! Each of the colored bits have different quilting as well, but it is too hard to see with the busy print fabric.

It was really big for sure. I don't blame Rebecca for being intimidated by quilting it on her domestic machine

Wow ,when you practice you practice large. It looks great. It would be so fun to see it in person and get to discover all of your textures.

Thanks Deb! You know what they say...go big or go home. Ha ha. I was going to be quilting it anyway, so it was really fun to quilt with some new to me designs.
