a Mad Cap in pink

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Project Upcycle: Thrifty Sewing Projects »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Children

Style: Casual, Classic

Materials

I de-contructed a pink woven acrylic skirt for the outside of the hat, and a vintage pillowcase for the inside.

What was your inspiration?

This is a project from Betz White's 'Project Upcycle' course. She made it easy and fun.

What are you most proud of?

That I used my sewing machine and only swore twice! (we have a rather tempestuous relationship, my Singer and I) But seriously, even though the material I chose was tricky to work with, I think the hat turned out pretty cute.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I opted to use this woven acrylic material because it was cute but found it pretty fiddly to work with. Acrylic doesn't respond well to ironing and I had a hard time getting it to behave. I made a second hat of wool and it turned out beautifully and was much easier to work with.
