What was your inspiration?

Well, I wanted a winter skirt, so I picked a heavier fabric.

What are you most proud of?

It turned out well over all. Happy with it. : ) I think I am most proud of that it actually looks wearable. haha

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I made 3 muslins and actually ended up drafting several patterns. The first one I thought was too small, but I got the second two big. I was confused on how tight to measure I guess and was messing with different amount of ease.
Finally pattern 3 turned out good. I made a yolk version with inseam pockets and zipper in the back, but the skirt looked horrible ugly. I tossed it and went to the store to get new/different fabric and redid the pattern again so the zipper would be on the side instead of the back..No pockets. This time the skirt turned out nicely. I made the darts, that later became the yolk, a bit bigger/wider in the back than the front. Skirts and pants often have a gap in the back for me.

So my advice would be not to be discouraged it the first attempts doesn't turn out good and that the mistakes are a good learning experience. I am sure I am going to make lots of them in the future.

Wow, you really do persevere and you did a great job! The facing is fine and looks really pretty, and now you've done it once, it'll be easier next time.

Thank you, Yenni, for sharing your perseverance. The next time I want to quit sewing on an item, I will remember your well made and well fitted skirt that you have added to your wardrobe. I cannot see anything wrong with the lining. Now that you are finished, was it worth doing a hand drafted pattern; or, would you have preferred to use a commercial skirt pattern?

I think you did a great job and I admire you for doing 3 muslins and redoing the skirt. I might have given up on the second muslin.

Great pic of fabric, I was looking at cords myself the other day but all ready have three good fabrics from my quilting stash, of heavier materials. Im getting started today wit the measureless. Think the next time Im in the fabric shop or any place that sells fabric I'll be looking for some cords.

The facing could have looked a bit better. I had a hard time with it. Had to redo it once and with the struggle I had...well I just left it so it wouldn't end up worse again.
