A Jewel Cake

A Jewel Cake

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Jeweled Wedding Cake »

Instructions

I used various things from both the Jeweled Wedding Class course and the Modern Piping. I did not need a huge cake, so I experimented with a regular size cake using the tools I learned.

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Romantic

Materials

Cake, Butter cream, Fondant (with and without tylose), Royal Icing, Sugar pearls, Pearlized Silver Sugar, Hand painting with Pearl Dust, and a few more things.

What was your inspiration?

I made this on my birthday. I cannot eat sugar but decorate cakes. I made this for a dinner for our church tomorrow. I will call it my birthday cake to myself. The instructions in this class were awesome.

What are you most proud of?

The way the band around the cake turned out and also the jewelry on the sides.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Give it a try. Just follow the directions in the class.

You did a nice job turning a large cake into a small cake. That often isn't easy to do and make it look right. Well done. Just enough stuff to make it pretty, not too busy.

... And now onto your cake and away from the politics. I think this is stunning. Having enrolled on the class and watched it several times, i love how you have adapted Marina's ideas and made them your own. Great work. I would be delighted to havevthis as my cake. Happy birthday... Just a shame you can't eat it!

Most pastry chefs, skilled chefs etc., are Men!!!. Surely they had to start somewhere and be shown by someone, not sure why you take offence is because the word women is suggested. I take a class at the moment and three men are also taking the class, they are not offended because there are more women, actually they quite like the attention and all the tips they receive. Try it first before assuming.....no offence meant just pointing out a few facts.

Also I feel that you would benefit from the classes because it is the techniques that are taught. I have taken several classes taught by a man. Please give it a try. You will be amazed at what you is available.

What I meant is that this cake would be more appealing to women. I do not see anyone that orders cakes from me ordering this for their husband. I did not mean any offense and I am sorry that you took it that way. I also decorate cakes for men with less "bling". Again I am sorry you took offense.

I have thought about some classes to round out my skills and learn new trickes with my cakes and love what are being put out here but am a little PUT-OFF and offended here by most of these stating they are for "WOMEN," I am a MAN and I bake cakes, my mother baked for over 40 years, and out of 5 siblings I was the only one that took it up. I bake all occasion cakes as well as very beautiful wedding cakes. I always love to learn new techneques for my cakes. My wife helps me at times but I do all the decorating by myself. I just feel discriminated against here, and if the class videos are the same I do not feel they will be of any use to us.

Cairocats is rit. When you upload a project it asks you who you think this end product will appeal to? They don't mean the class itself. I agree that this is more likely to be a.cake for a woman - i did make my dad a cake with a flower on it this year, a waterlily as he loves ponds and fishing. If you check out the cake classes on Craftsy you'll find almost half are run by men
