What was your inspiration?
My son's wife saw this quilt in Fons & Porter's and asked if I could make it for her. She wanted it exactly as the picture so I e-mailed the designer, Ann Lauer of Grizzly Gulch Gallery, and we began collecting all the fabrics. I worked on it bit by bit, reworked the pattern to foundation piece the turquoise hourglasses and make up for end-of-bolt distortion in the printed panels. Brenda Anderson of Rose City Quilter, Portland, OR, is my amazing quilter!
What are you most proud of?
It looks great!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Don't pre-wash printed panels if you are following a commercial pattern, esp. a complex one! Pre-washing caused a lot of shrinkage and augmented the end-of-bolt distortion of the kaleidoscopes. It required some interesting patching to be able to cut the blocks to the pattern size.
