Panel Quilt
Instructions
I cut the side borders from just over two yards of fabric and the top and bottom borders from additional yardage. Since I make these in large quantity for my spring and summer festivals, I am able to cut continuous yardage for the vertical side borders without being wasteful.
If you wanted to keep the look of continuous borders with a similar fabric, you could always use the excess to create alternating print/plain blocks on the backing.
The only reason this isn't rated a 1 out of 5 for simplicity is because the nylon can be slippery to use. A walking foot can make feeding it much easier. I also recommend an extra row of stitches to the flag, prior to cutting off the binding strip with the grommets. This way the nylon is less likely to fray while you work with the panel.I cut the side borders from just over two yards of fabric and the top and bottom borders from additional yardage. What advice would you give someone starting this project?
If you don't normally pre-wash or rinse your fabrics, I would recommend doing so for this project. The flag shouldn't shrink in the washing, so it might pucker if the borders shrink substantially.
