What was your inspiration?

I love sewing and handmade sewing objects. I have a collection of wooden sewing birds so I wanted to make a fabric bird pincushion of my own to go with my collection.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be creative, mix and match fun prints. Add your own touch with buttons, embroidery floss, etc.

These make great gifts for other sewing enthusiasts.

NOTE: If making these Birdies as Xmas ornaments, omit the weighted bag insert and just use all polyfil for stuffing so the Birdie is lighter in weight.

I noticed the idea for a wrist strapped pin cushion, then saw this. I plan to try making the bird, including some sort of pin plate in the bottom (plastic or cardboard, so pins won't poke out the other side), and add it to a wrist strap. Voila! A 'tame' bird. :)

I just made a pillow for the nest, stuffed it lightly and machine stitched a circle in the middle to make a depression for the birds to sit in.

I just made up the nest, but did not include that in the pattern because in instructions were already written up. Just make a little pillow basically. :)

I love the birds. It may be just me, but I don't see the pattern for the nest. If it is available I would love to use that pattern too, it would make a wonderful gift set! Many thanks for a great idea.
